Do you remember the popular 60’s song sung by Dionne Warwick, “What the World Needs Now?” The answer follows, “love sweet love.” That was true then and is true now. The next verse is, “It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of” and the last verse says, “No, not just for some but for everyone.” We are so very sad about the injustice and absence of love shown towards people of color in our nation, so many years after that song was popular.
I remember reading something in the archives of the founder of Wycliffe Bible Translators, Cameron Townsend. He wrote on this subject during the ’60s. “As I observe what goes on around me, I’m convinced it’s love that this world needs, the love of God. It’s what you & I are supposed to give this old world, God’s love lived out in everyday life.” Wow! What would that love look like today? The same as in Jesus’ day, 2,000 years ago when He was mistreated. In Mark 22:37-39, He told His followers to love the Lord their God with all their being and their neighbor as themselves. When we do that we will see the changes we need to see in our world.
Today I read a reflection by the current Wycliffe president, John Chestnut, regarding the present situation in our country. It was full of empathy and compassion for those who have been mistreated. “I am convinced that the only true solution is a transformation in our hearts and minds that can only come from the one in whose image we are created. This is true for us as individuals and as a nation.” He was honest about his need also to look at his own life. What needs changing in his attitude, actions, etc? I so appreciated his wisdom and leadership. I’ve included the link to it here. So, how about you? How are you doing? We are doing a lot of reflecting. Do we need to make some changes in our life? We’re listening, Lord!
We have been praying for each of you as you have navigated the last couple of months with the pandemic storm. It’s been good to hear from many of you. Some of you have lost loved ones and are navigating life without them. We are praying for you. We also pray you will be safe in the places you live at this time and that you will use this time to pray for our nation and its people. Prayer is a powerful tool against the enemy and his tactics to destroy. Eph 6:12-13. The battle isn’t against flesh and blood but against the devil’s evil forces. Let’s stand firm.
