Community Service May 2018

Hume Lake Christian Camps…

20180511_062400-EFFECTSMay 6-11, Judy and I had the awesome privilege to serve with a community of believers at Hume Lake Christian camps. Men on a Mission (and women too) from Emmanuel Faith Community Church in Escondido CA have been making the trip to Hume for 20 years to serve the camp by preparing things for the coming summer camps. Did you know this camp hosts 20,000 campers each summer? This was our first time to join in this annual event. It was an excellent experience to be part of a community of over 300 people to bless this camp. Kids to seniors joined in and got “down and dirty”. I served with a group of guys in the auto shop, some of us pulling a runout engine out of a pick-up truck and replacing with a good used one. I enjoyed serving along with Mike and Larry, helping Scott the full-time Hume auto mechanic.

20180509_161316-COLLAGE.jpg50 years ago as a 6th grader, I came to Wagon Train camp and stayed in one of these wagons. That summer I received Jesus as my Savior and began an incredible journey of growing in Jesus and serving Him all over the world.

20180507_103420-COLLAGE.jpgJudy did several things. She started with pulling apart foam mattresses to make a bumpy surface which would be attached to a portable wooden set and painted to look like lava rocks. It was finger breaking, so she tried raking pine needles and found that feet breaking (not literally), so she found her place in painting fluorescent paint on silk leaves to add to the rock scene.  Doing this gave us the wonderful opportunity to connect with new people, new friends, all part of this community called, The Body of Christ.

20180509_181917-1.jpgThe camp is in the Sequoia National Forest, right next to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, so we took some time after camp to visit them both. What amazing beauty and contrasts exist in both places.  God sure is creative.20180511_103014-COLLAGE.jpg

Thanks again for praying for us as we traveled in CA and shared about our new Wycliffe ministry and inviting others to partner with us. Did you know that since 2016 the number of visits to ScriptureEarth.org has doubled each year and as of this April have already doubled from 2017? You are having that effect as you pray and support our Wycliffe ministry. People are finding the Scriptures in their heart language.

Thanks! Please keep praying for more people to join our Wycliffe prayer and financial team. We are still 15% short of our Wycliffe required budget.

They have recently been assigned to a new role in the America's Area, North Region, Scripture Access services team. They will be crisscrossing the USA in a very strategic method making face to face encounters with churches, ministries, Native American communities, Diaspora communities, refugee aid organizations, and individuals, introducing them to www.scriptureearth.org. Through this website, non-English speakers can access scriptures and other resources in their mother tongue language. Would you consider becoming a part of their Wycliffe ministry partnership team? 1. Wow, that sounds like fun to me!

Thanks for sharing your adventure. I love that part of California, too.

    Blessings
