Judy and I want to wish you a Merry Christmas and a very bright and Happy New Year, as well as share a little of our lives. We enjoy hearing about your families in your letters and cards. We truly appreciate each of you and your friendships as well as your desire to partner with us for access to the Bible for all.
Last week, one of the social media staff on our Scripture Access Team told
about a Google-Facebook advertising test they did. They posted a one-minute video of someone reading scriptures in a minority language. Using Google’s hyper-focused advertising methodology, they narrowed to a very small segment of a town where many people from this minority language group were known to live. They found that in only two days, 25% had seen the ad and 6% of those watched the whole video. The experiment only cost $10.
This was exciting for Judy and I and gave us an idea. Recently, a colleague was visiting the White Mountain Apache museum on the reservation and they saw the Apache Bible on display. Wycliffe completed the Bible back in 1985. The curator told her that there are many Christians in the Apache Nation, but they didn’t know where to get more copies. At the time, the colleagues didn’t know about the website www.ScriptureEarth.org. How sad for the Apache believers! Hopefully, we can run a Google-Facebook advertising blitz and see the same wonderful results with the Apaches in Arizona.
Family: Jody and Caleb Depp and grandkids, Violette (7) and Isaac (5), have done well adjusting to their new home in Hickory NC. Their parents have been busy with renovations and its looking great. They had a tornado go through with lots of tree damage, but thankfully no property damage. Jody tells us that Isaac always asks if he can come to GiGi’s (Grandma’s) house. Someday we hope we’ll live closer.
Josh is still teaching English at a school in Bangkok and online. He and Ani celebrated their 1st anniversary apart Dec 9. She is still going to school, in Russia, for a law degree. They plan to come to the US in May/June. Then they both will go to Russia until she finishes her schooling.
Ani and Josh grocery shopping during her 2 months in Thailand this summer
Jordan had a busy season on one of the helicopters working for the Grand Canyon National Park doing fire support and rescues. Actually, he was on fires outside the canyon most of the season. His girlfriend Sara works at the Canyon too in the botanical area.
Our parents: We got to see my dad, (98), in Wichita, KS several times this year. He loves to go on drives anytime we are there and he remembers us and always happy. (Though he doesn’t look like it here)
Judy’s folks are well, but her dad still has blood transfusions every 3 weeks for chronic anemia caused by MDS.
Answers to prayer since our Nov letter:
1. Judy’s, folks let us borrow their 24 ft. Winnebago RV. We think it will work well for testing living on the road. We hope to crisscross the US living in an RV as we promote scriptureearth.org, once our Wycliffe ministry budget is fully promised. 2. Three new or returning friends joined our Wycliffe ministry team in the last week.
3. Two partners shared how they are advocating for ScriptureEarth.org since they read about it in our November letter. Have you looked at it? It’s so amazing to see the response of people when we show them.
Please pray for us:
1. Yesterday, Friday, we started our drive to North Carolina for Christmas with Jody, Caleb, Violette and Isaac, and son Jordan and girlfriend Sara. On the way, we’ll stop to see my dad in Wichita and other friends and partners.
2. We will be on the road in the South East and Gulf through Feb. Our plans are to meet with partners, churches, etc. to share about our new role in Scripture Access, promoting the website ScriptureEarth.org. and inviting them to join us in our Wycliffe ministry. 3. Pray that God will provide the RV or 5th wheel and 1-ton truck for our Wycliffe ministry. We get to borrow Judy’s parents RV for three months right now. We will need a different RV after that.
PS: Did you know that donations of cars, boats, airplanes, real estate and much more can be given to Wycliffe and the proceeds from selling those items can be preferenced towards our Wycliffe ministry, Jim and Judy McCabe, account # 221793.
