Presidential guard declared a coup d’etat

Ken and I just missed out on some excitement…

On the afternoon of Sept 16, the presidential guard detained the President, Prime Minister and other cabinet ministers at the Presidential Palace. Sept 17th, the unions announced a general strike until such time as the hostages were liberated. This morning, Sept 18th elements of the presidential guard declared a coup d’etat, announcing that the President had resigned and the government was dissolved.
The borders have now been closed until further notice and a curfew has been put in place from 7 PM to 6 AM. Armed soldiers are in place around the capital and there have been demonstrations in other cities as well.

All SIL staff are safe and accounted for.

The country and leadership need our prayers. Please pray for a quick and peaceful resolution to this crisis.
